Church attendance is declining in North America. It is no secret. Everybody knows. We read it in the news. Four years ago, Newsweek magazine proclaimed ‘The Decline and Fall of Christian America.’ You probably have heard about the rise of the “nones”. The number of Americans who do not identify with any religion continues to grow at a rapid pace. One-fifth of the U.S. public – and a third of adults under 30 – are religiously unaffiliated today, the highest percentages ever in Pew Research Center polling. Read more…

Do you know the worst punishment my mom ever gave to me when I was a child? She spanked, she pinched, she shouted, she gave me time outs, she made me skip dinner, she stopped giving me allowance for a month…but nothing worse than when she ignored me (intentionally). This is her ‘silver bullet’ to my soul. Let me explain how it worked:

My mom told me to finish my homework before I could watch TV. Of course, being Vincent, I would have to disobey that. I watched TV for a few hours and then did my homework. Everything was calm and peaceful. Too peaceful. I saw my mom doing stuff and going back and forth here and there around the house.
